Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy, 10 day residency with fourteen first graders based on a social injustice project. The theme was what would you give someone experiencing homelessness? The students made "lovey's" soft sculptures with their image of what they would give. Photographs accompanied the lovey's with a description of what they would give in writing.
Students above are discussing what is unfair? The classroom teacher, Ms. Mohen started the class with giving everyone a lollipop except two students...is this fair she asked? Through conversation, student Vienna said "it isn't fair that some people have homes and others only have grocery carts". Her statement began our further discussion of what experiencing homeless meant.
The first grade students worked with eighth grade buddies to help sew their lovies.
